Janganpa Jukurrpa (Possum Jukurrpa), 1999 Acrylic on canvas, 105,5 x 75,5 cm The Kurda or custodians of this Jukurrpa are Japaljarri and Jungarrayi men and Napaljarri and Nungarrayi women. Jupurrula and Napurrula are Kudungurlu or the managers. This painting shows Janganpa running between the trees at nicht to feed. The wavy lines and the E- shapes are the tracks he leaves as he moves around. The Janganpa is considered good meat for yapa. The story here is about a Janganpa ancestor who travelled over the land visiting various sites during the Jukurrpa. The sites shown are south of Yuendumu heading east. In the centre of the canvas is Yulumparani a cecret cave and soakage. At the bottom left is Yangarungu and at the right is Yajarlungi they are both soakages. At the top left Yukurri a soakage. At the right is Warkarningi a swamg. The Men are shown with their hunting weapons. The U-shapes represent Jungarrayi/Japaljarroi men hunting. |
