The honey ant lives under the ground at a depth of about 4-5 ft. The Aboriginal women dig the earth using a digging stick to find a cavity in which the ant travels.
The ant is dug up and carried back to the camp in a coolamon (carved wooden dish) and shared. The ant´s abdomen holds a sweet nectar and is sucked out by the
Aboriginal people.
