Viewing ofReference Material
Art students and others conducting research are welcome to make an appointment with us to view the works listed in the adjacent table.
It is also recommended for Europeans to use the online search system at KVK (Karlsruher Virtueller Katalog), in which all German and many European scholarly libraries list their available references. Sometimes the works are available for loan.
A list of further references about Australian art, which however are not yet in our reference collection, is also maintained and continually extended.

Book Review
As an introduction to the NGA collection of indigenous art, and to the main streams of art included in it, this catalogue is excellent. The 250-page catalogue shows an artwork on nearly every page, with some accompanying information about the work and the artist, covering the major regions and styles, not forgetting urban art. The text is insightful, detailed and accurate, but nevertheless the book is tantalizing in ist brevity. The authors provide some background information for each major art direction, but the lack of depth is hardly alleviated by the few endnotes for each section.
